Let’s use a simple numerical example and assume that Mr. Miller invests 100,000 U.S. dollars in one of the investments:
Then based on margin up to 10% of his assets are invested, which initially equals 10,000 U.S. dollars. Due to the leverage an amount of about 500,000 U.S. dollars is actually traded on the forex market.
With an annual return of e.g. 25%, this amounts to a profit of 125,000 U.S. dollars which - compared to the original investment - is a profit of 125%. (Without proper risk management, this high degree of leverage can lead to large negative as well as positive results.)
As you can see, even a conservative positive return from trading suffices due to the leverage. In addition, the continuous re-investment of profits increases the returns accordingly.
